After my conversation with Nicolas, it's become clear that while we can come up with exciting experiences based on intuition, we need more structure for a proper assessment. We need a framework with concrete learning objectives. Otherwise, the experience will take over, and we'll become more of an entertainment company – far from our goal.
Was this a fail fast? Of not fast enough?? So, has our prototype failed? Yes, in the sense that we weren't able to conduct a somewhat objective assessment. We couldn't adequately help participants reflect deeply. But it has also given us invaluable insights. Better to fail now than later. In my view, this makes it a successful prototype. The question now is: where do we go from here? Do we abandon everything, or do we move on to the next test to discover and learn more in a continuous flow?
Based on our learnings, I'm considering several new directions:
PROTOTYPE: I want to experiment further with our reflection dialogue. How can we quickly assess someone's mastery of 21st-century skills? Are they already more "Future Ready"? We envisioned some kind of Magic The Game card-game forcing you to deal with choices and dilemma's
THINK: How can we avoid positioning ourselves as the all-knowing authority? It should be genuine reflection, true self-assessment. HOW???
RESEARCH: If we make our intuition and implicit experience tangible (think of the "Wise Company" book), what would that look like? A framework of learning goals?
PROTOTYPE: What role can "next practices" play in this (as opposed to best practices, "next" doesn't refer to the average but to the new)?
THINK: If we want to focus our efforts on developing good tools and usable content rather than a circus of experiences, boxes, and trainers, what's a more practical model?
Some aspects require more research, like the framework, while others, such as the reflection dialogue, we can start testing now. Of course, everything is interconnected but we need to start somewhere.
Our prototype failed and succeeded at the same time In conclusion, our prototype has both failed and succeeded. It's given us a clearer direction and highlighted areas for improvement. I'm excited about the potential of our next steps, particularly in developing a more structured approach while maintaining the essence of self-reflection and future-readiness. Time to roll up our sleeves and get to work on the next iteration!
