Today I made a personal commitment and posted it on my linkedIn; my 'Pledge for Purpose'. I've promised myself to only invest my energy, attention, talent, and network in projects that contribute positively to one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Sharing this pledge serves as motivation for myself and hopefully inspires others. As an entrepreneur, it's an exciting leap for us. I see this as encouragement to go beyond just 'don't be evil' or occasional NGO projects. It's about fully integrating positive contributions into daily business. It's not easy, but it's important and possible!

We decided to only focus our efforts on clients and projects that result in a net positive contribution to society and/or nature. Many fellow entrepreneurs told me our market would become too small, that we would not survive such a firm line.

Discussing this with clients and in projects has been nerve-wracking but has actually led to increased engagement and better results, both for the projects and their positive impact. We are growing more and more. I've noticed that this sense of purpose has an incredibly positive effect on employee and partner engagement, significantly boosting the quality of outcomes. I now realize that it would be a shame if we would not spend all our energy, contacts, experience, knowhow, creativity on those clients and projects that deserve it most. I'll be sharing some concrete examples of this 'challenge' soon. In the video I will make my pledge, share my 15 year sustainability journey and explain why this matters to us.
