WHAT WOULD MONCLER DO?

LESS PREDICTION, MORE ADAPTATION Moncler is a luxury fashion brand known for its high-performance Alpine jackets. At Moncler, collaboration is the strategy. Moncler’s leadership accepts something most brands fear: Loss of visual control in exchange for cultural relevance. Coherence comes from DNA, values and quality, not aesthetics or brand bible. No single “main collection” dominates. Instead of betting on one trend they prototype many Parallel drop and multiple futures are explored at the same time. The market decides what scales.

Moncler replaced “trend forecasting” with a cultural operating system: Moncler Genius. No seasonal reports, creative directors, or heritage cues. Instead they built the a permanent interface with culture. Designers, artists, brands, musicians, and architects act as external sensors. Each collaborator brings their own community, aesthetic, and zeitgeist. Trend spotting becomes embedded in production, not a separate analysis step. So less prediction and a more adaptive production process.

FROM ALPINE TECH TO FASHION CULTURE

Moncler is known for its high-quality alpine jackets that combine technical performance with fashion. But in an industry where trends move at lightning speed and diversity continues to grow, Moncler chose a radical shift in approach. Instead of one annual collection under tight creative control, they turned the traditional fashion model upside down: fashion no longer shapes culture—culture shapes fashion. No runway shows, no rigid Brand Bible, but a continuous inflow of signals from subcultures, regions, and creative domains. The outside world became the source, not the final destination.

HOUSE OF GENIUS: HUMAN TREND ANTENNAS

With Moncler Genius—also known as the House of Genius—the brand created a human interface that brings trends directly from culture into the organization. Artists, designers, musicians, and other creative leaders were invited to design full collections. Not as advisors, but as designers with complete creative freedom. They acted as “antennas” of the cultural undercurrent, translating emerging movements straight into product design. Trend research was no longer a separate step, but an integral part of the production process. The result: many parallel drops, with the market itself determining which designs are scaled.

LETTING GO OF CONTROL?!

Moncler demonstrates a complete reversal of classic, internally driven creative processes: not thinking from brand to world, but from world to brand. The question is: what would your organization look like if you applied the same principle? Are you a House of Voices that speaks with many perspectives, or does a single, fixed tone of voice dominate? Who would you invite as trend antennas to bring insights from subcultures, domains, or customer groups into your organization? And perhaps the most challenging question: what happens if you let go of all aesthetic and brand restrictions? If you design purely from quality, creativity, or the perspective of a specific designer or customer? An open approach can lead to surprising and innovative products and services—if you dare to step beyond familiar boundaries.

Ask yourself:

  • In what way does your brand or organization already speak with different voices?

  • Who could you invite as social trend antennas?

  • What would happen if they were to reinvent your product without a brand bible or heritage, just values & quality?
